Generation Apprenticeship Employer of the Year Awards 2020

Delighted for Patrick Folan of IAM Sold who is nominated in the SME category of the Generation Apprenticeship Employer of the Year Awards. Patrick is our incoming chairman of our Consortia Steering Group. IAM Sold Property Auctions currently have three apprentices on the apprenticeship programme, with an additional two having fully qualified since the apprenticeship commenced in 2018.
They operate an open, supportive work environment where employees are encouraged to develop and progress within the industry. IAM Sold Property Auctions actively support the apprenticeship programme by employing people specifically for the apprenticeship and encouraging existing staff to upskill. The support structures within the organisation ensure that apprentices are nurtured and developed through education and on-the-job training.

Infographic of 2020 Intake

We have finalised our intake numbers for 2020 and I am delighted to report that 86 Auctioneering & Property Services apprentices started in mid-September in our FET colleges located in Dublin, Cork, and Galway. This intake surpassed our expectations given the prevailing conditions of Covid-19 and Brexit. It is a testament to the Property market that employers continued to support this programme seeking to develop both new and existing staff. I attach an infographic which details the breakdown by age, gender, location, and other relevant statistics. Currently between the two programme years 2019/2020 we have 156 apprentices in training and 48 graduated from our first-year intake in 2018 with 54% receiving distinctions.

Apprentices attend Virtual Auctions during Covid-19 Faciliated by Wilson Auctions

September 17th, 2020

Wilsons Auctions was selected as the training complex of choice by CDETB and in doing so welcomed a number of apprentice property auctioneers into its Dublin branch, allowing them to get a full understanding of the auction process.

As the largest independent auction company in Ireland and the UK, Wilsons Auctions understands the importance of playing a role in nurturing the next generation of auctioneers to allow for further growth across the industry.

During their time at Wilsons Auctions the apprentices were supported by the Dublin property team, Celia Lamb, Juliet Gethin and Ricky Wilson who offered them the skills, knowledge and behaviors necessary for a successful career in property auctions as well as a structured program of on-the-job training and development.

Prior to Covid-19 restrictions, the apprentices attended the auction house on a weekly basis where they were walked through the process of preparing for auctions, engaging with the members of staff before experiencing the unique atmosphere of the full auction hall. With Ricky up on the rostrum they not only got to experience the buzz of the auction but seeing bids being made both physically and online which opens the auction up to a worldwide audience.

The apprentices not only got to experience their first property auction during their time at Wilsons Auctions but the quick pace in which the sale of a property is completed. With contracts signed and a deposit paid on the day of the auction, the property usually closes four weeks later making it a clean and transparent way of selling property.

Despite lockdown restrictions and as a result of Wilsons Auctions diversifying to facilitate live virtual auctions, the apprentices from our three locations Dublin, Cork and Galway were able to complete their course by participating online, not only watching the auction but taking part in a lengthy questions and answers sessions via zoom with Ricky and Celia.

Wilsons Auctions was delighted to support the apprentices throughout the year and while overcoming the challenges that Covid-19 brought, they were able to achieve their PSRA license.

The staff at Wilsons Auctions found this to be a really beneficial exercise to work alongside CDETB and look forward to welcoming more apprentices in the future.

Wilsons Auctions Dublin is part of Wilsons Auctions’ group-wide Land and Property Department offering auction solutions to buyers and sellers across the whole of Ireland and the UK.

A family owned business, Wilsons Auctions was formed in 1936 in Northern Ireland and has grown to become the largest independent auction company in the British Isles with sites in the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales.

Holding over 2,000 auctions annually and with an annual hammer total of over €300 million, Wilsons Auctions is the tried and trusted auctioneer with the expertise to auction anything from land, residential and commercial property to cars, vans, plant and machinery as well as the more luxurious goods including planes, yachts, gold bars, high value watches and cryptocurrency.

Auctioneering & Property Services Apprenticeship in collaboration with the Housing Agency

Great to talk to The Housing Agency last week where we explored collaborating with CDETB regarding the Auctioneering & Property Services apprenticeship. We explored our common interest in supporting the education and development of those considering entering professions in this important sector.

Please visit here for more information about what the Housing Agency do and here for details of their education programmes.

Irish Times Article on Apprenticeships 8/9/2020

Great to see the Government promoting apprenticeships as a method of learning combining academic knowledge with practical work skills. The CAO is not the only route for Leaving Certificate students.
